SPRING BREAK IN THE GEORGIA MOUNTAINS AT THE DILLARD HOUSE CHALET
It’s Spring Break, time for a trip to the beach. Right? No, not for this family. We prefer the mountains. When I say we, I mean the whole family, all nine of us. That would be mom and dad, the newlyweds with their little baby, the high school sweetheart couple, and two sixteen-year-old girls. We need a good size place in order for all of us to be comfortable. That is the first reason we decided on a The Dillard House Chalet. Yes, they are nice and roomy, but they are also located in the paradise of the North Georgia Mountains. So, for those two reasons we booked a long weekend at the start of Spring Break.
BEAUTIFUL RABUN COUNTY
We pulled into beautiful Rabun County early in the afternoon on Friday. The sun was shining, skies were blue, and there was a breeze blowing the blooms of the dogwood trees. No one can tell me that does not just sound amazing. We walked down to a little stream that runs in front of the Dillard House so Nathan could do a little fishing. The scenery was picture perfect. He fished and while I snapped some beautiful pics. I was enjoying the gorgeous sunshine and the sounds of the flowing water and before you knew it check in time was here. Check in was at the Dillard House, just about five miles up the road from the chalets. We picked up the keys and were excited to check out our home for the weekend at the Dillard House Chalet.
DILLARD HOUSE CHALET COMMUNITY ON THE MOUNTAINSIDE
The chalets are located in their own little community. They are on the side of the mountain which gives you beautiful views, but they are up on the mountain enough that there is a bit of a secluded feel. We pulled up the driveway to find a pretty house set back in the trees. My husband opened up the doors and we were pleasantly surprised. The chalet was large, with two large bedrooms on the top floor and two large bedrooms on the lower level. There was also a large kitchen, living room with a beautiful fireplace, and three bathrooms. That was just the inside accommodations. We had a deck that surrounded most of the house. It included a screened in dining area, a lower level deck, and a deck outside the back door complete with five rocking chairs. I think our cray crew has plenty of room.
Yes the house was spacious, but it was also beautifully decorated. The large fireplace gave us the mountain feel we were after. Everyone enjoyed sitting around the fire in the evenings. Our rooms were comfortable. My husband said the mattress was one of the best he has ever slept on. We also had a TV on each level and WIFI was provided. The kitchen is perfect, spacious and well equipped. We had all the conveniences of home.
Like I said the chalets were in their own little community. At the front of the property there was a little creek fed pond. My family loves to fish. So, this little area provided late afternoon entertainment. Nathan and Nathaniel caught a speckled perch and a large mouth bass. We also got to see the wildlife including a pair of geese who flew in every evening. There is also a pool, but it was still a little too cool to enjoy swimming. It is just a lovely area for relaxing.
We were there for three days and that was not nearly enough time to indulge in all the events this area has to offer. We were so close to many wonderful activities. Just up the mountain into North Carolina we found Highlands Aerial Park for a zip lining adventure. The whole family enjoyed zipping through the trees. (we will have a full review up soon)
After a full morning of fun, we sat out to find a little lunch. Even further up the mountain we drove into Highlands. This little city is dubbed as “The Aspen of The East” It certainly lived up to it’s nickname with cute little shops, spas, and gourmet eateries. Our crew ate at Mountain Fresh Grocery. This is a boutique grocery store and restaurant. They had fresh ground coffee, homemade pizza, salad/hot bar, and a grill that provided me with the best burger I have ever eaten.
With our tummies full it was time to take in the sites. Just driving down the winding mountain roads is entertainment, so much gorgeous scenery. We drove up on Bridal Veil Falls and thought it was just breathtaking. However, a little further up the road we found Dry Falls. What a site. It is a large waterfall with a cave in which you can walk behind the falls. I have now words, thank goodness for pictures. (however, the pictures do not do it justice.
The boys need fishing. Our trail wound into Franklin North Carolina. There they found a micro brewery on the Little Tennessee River. Our group was able to kick back and relax in the sun while the boys dropped a line. Nathaniel reeled in a red belly pan fish. We also saw people kayaking on the river. Of course, the boys are planning a kayak trip in June.
MAKE PLANS FOR YOUR OWN MOUNTAIN GETAWAY
What a great beginning to our Spring Break. I enjoyed all the activities, but I really just loved hanging out with my family. The Dillard House Chalets are the perfect home away from home for your family. I highly recommend you find out more info on the Dillard House Chalet and plan a getaway of your own.
