HOT CHOCOLATE HAPPINESS
Nothing says the holidays have arrived like a delicious cup of hot chocolate. It seems that when the weather gets cool I just crave a warm drink. I love making my girls and I a cup and watching old holiday movies . It’s a great way to spend a cold winter weekend.(well close to winter) Everyone seems to just perk up at the mention of hot chocolate. I think it just seems to make any occasion slightly more social.
That made me start to think. How could I take a pot of hot chocolate to the next level. What would could I do to make grown ups giggle like little kids and children light up with happiness? Then it came to me. Toppings!!! Who does not love to dress up their drinks. Hot chocolate with a big mound of whipped cream always brings me back to childhood happiness. I know I cannot be the only one with fond hot chocolate memories.
HOT CHOCOLATE BAR TREAT
I thought it would be nice to treat my church family to a holiday drink bar with all the best toppings. I love whipped cream, but I know there are a ton of other treats people love to use as toppings. My family gave me all kind of ideas like: peppermint chips, miniature marshmallows, chocolate chips, cinnamon, chocolate sprinkles, candy canes, and sugar sprinkles. They gave me so many great ideas.
My husband made a perfect pot of hot chocolate (recipe will be at the end of the post). I gathered up all the toppings my family suggested. Some of the little girls at church helped me set up my display (I think helping with the set up was just as fun for them as making a drink). I bought some pastries from the local bakery to combine with our hot chocolate bar, now we had our complete holiday happy place.
HOT CHOCOLATE HAPPY PLACE
We announced the bar and then an amazing thing happened. Smiling, laughing, hugs, and just pure happiness. I loved this. It was a great start to a beautiful Sunday. Now, I am not proposing that hot chocolate with all the topping can create world peace. I know there is a lot of love in our church, but treating people like they are truly special makes for a great holiday social.
So, this is my suggestion. Make some hot cocoa, coffee, or apple cider. Include the some topping that people consider special and add to the holiday happiness. Just think what a great world this would be if everyone had a cup of their special holiday drink in their hand.
