THE CHRONICLES OF PREGNANCY: WEEK 26

So, here I am, officially 6 and a half months. I must say, the third trimester hasn’t been too bad yet, but my stomach does not seem to know that. Every day I wake up hungry and unless I eat like it is Thanksgiving, I stay that way. All. Day. Long. See, I am an eater, so this is probably the worst part for me. As far as Aksel goes, he seems happy. He is becoming more and more active and his kicks are getting stronger. He kicked so hard when I was laying down last night, it made me jump! He was definitely showing off for me and was reluctant for bedtime! I hope the second attribute will go away sooner rather than later!

26 weeks

So, at 26 weeks, Aksel should weigh about 1 and 2/3 of a pound and be about 14 inches long. In the next week, his eyes will be opening! In addition to this, he is beginning to hear. This past week Aksel should have been able to hear the muffled conversations I have had with other people. I am so excited for my next appointment: this is the last 4-week stretch between visits. And at this appointment we are getting a sonogram! I cannot wait to see how much my little man has grown! And more good news: no call from the doctor means no gestational diabetes! That makes Aksel so happy, being he has grown to love ice cream so much.

Shopping a Registry

As I told you last week, I went to scout the registry gift bag at Babies R Us. Here is my verdict: Babies R Us gift bags are not great. They do give you a bottle, which I love, but, the coupons are very limited. I was somewhat disappointed with the registry gift bag, but I’ll tell you what I wasn’t disappointed with: the registry offers!

Nathaniel loved playing with the toys!

I was always under the impression that Babies R Us was overpriced, but that is not so. They do have some of the top brand names available, so those are obviously expensive. But, for your lower-end stuff, they price match with Wal-Mart and K-Mart. That alone made me reconsider where we did the registry. Then, as if that was not enough, you get cash back for your registry! That’s right, you get 5% cash back from what OTHER PEOPLE spend on you. And, if you get over $300 in gifts from the registry, that rate goes up to 10%. When they told me this stuff, I thought, “Well, maybe it would be worth looking around.” Then I looked around and thought, “Yeah, this is great.”

Our Time In Babies R Us

A new parent in Babies R Us is like a kid in a candy store. As I looked around, I saw so many things I had never really thought about before: seats for shopping carts, grooming sets, spa bathtubs. I almost thought it was overwhelming, but I was too fascinated to stop looking. We filled up our registry list with middle-grade stuff for the most part. But let me tell you, if we could afford the 4moms mamaRoo, I would get it in a heartbeat! It’s smooth movements made me want to lay down and go to sleep. And an aux cord means Aksel could listen to whatever we want him to as he drifts off. Definitely something we would invest in if we didn’t have a house we are going to have to pay for.

Another item I fell in love with was the Disney Baby Finding Nemo Jumper. There we so many moving parts and lights. The wheels on the bottom are going to be great when Aksel is building his leg muscles pushing himself around. This one did make it on the registry too because it wasn’t super pricey. Let’s just say I hope someone falls in love with it as much as I did!

My favorite find: the Disney Baby Finding Nemo Jumper! Love, love, love this!!

Doing the registry was so much fun! It was great to be able to check something off our to-do list and still have a great time looking at all the neat toys and adorable clothes. I am so excited to have my baby shower and have my baby already! These toys are going to be so much cooler with a baby in the picture! Thank you all for the support you have shown the past several weeks. I cannot wait to show your pictures of my sonogram, and eventually, my baby!

Comments

  1. I never did a registry buy I think it would have been easier. I never pay attention to them either I always get a box of diapers for every baby shower it’s easy and much needed.

  2. How exciting! It’s really fun to go in the store and begin picking out the things you will need for your new baby. I’ve always been a fan of Babies-r-Us. Ours closed and I miss it. I thought their clothes were reasonably priced.

  3. My eating habits didn’t really change when I was pregnant, but I’m not a big eater anyway. I took a good friend with me to register who had just had a baby. That really helped me out a lot.

  4. I loved registering but it was so overwhelming with our first baby. We didnt register our second time around. I love that there are registries now – such an easy way to give friends and family something they really want or need.

  5. It’s such an exhilarating feeling for me to feel a life within my womb. I’m sure you experienced that as well. It’s an exciting feeling to head to the store and start buying items for the baby.

  6. Congrats on making it to the 3rd trimester! In all 3 of my pregnancies I get that after you hit 30 weeks the rest flew by. You’re almost there! Babies R Us is my favorite place – you’re right! Definitely like a kid in a candy store!

  7. This is such an insightful post about pregnancy! As someone who hasn’t undergone through it yet, it’s surely an eye-opening post to read. I wish you all the best in this, love!

  8. Awww…You look so adorable! I absolutely loved being pregnant and miss those days. My sister was registered at Babies R Us. They have everything you could possibly want for baby! 🙂

  9. I had a registry and it made my life so much easier picking out things I really needed. Shopping for baby stuff is so much fun. And I agree about the mama roo! I wish I could have had that for Z when he was a baby.
