Summer heat is coming in and the next few months are going to include time out in the hot weather. As a child, I would go to my grandparent’s house to go swimming (they had an amazing pool!) and my grandma would always make my sister and I this spectacular cherry lemonade. Nothing tasted better after a long, hot day like this lemonade served over ice. She had always loved using fresh fruits in her dishes and made sure to incorporate their sweet, natural, full-bodied taste. I was so ecstatic when she passed this recipe down to me, and now I can’t wait for you to be able to share it with your family!
- 1/2 cup lemon juice (about 3-4 medium lemons)
- 1 tablespoon lemon zest, chopped
- 2 cups pitted cherries
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 cups water, divided
Warm 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar in a pot until sugar dissolves completely. Mix in your pitted cherries into your simple syrup. Pour this mixture into a blender and blend for 15-20 seconds. Strain the juice, pressing down on the solids to allow the liquid through.
Mix your lemon juice, zest, and the remaining 2 cups of water into the strained cherry mixture, stir.
Serve over ice and enjoy your delicious cherry lemonade!
